LIVERPOOL V MANCHESTER

Posted by David Brookes on March 22, 2007 12:35 PM |

I am not going to skate around the subject I am totally annoyed at one of the Six in the City columnists he writes for a Liverpool newspaper but always bigs up Manchester. On Wednesday 21st March he writes about his opinions for Liverpool V Manchester I quote " Its one of the best days I'd ever had. It highlighted the difference between the two cities and showed just how far Liverpool needs to come to be able to challenge Manchester as a National shopping destination" & referring to Manchester as " with great transport links, excellent parking facilities and clever developments" Clearly he needs to open his eyes or get a pair of glasses as he must be blind to have missed the phenomenal regeneration of Liverpool at the minute. You can't miss the City of cranes, infact the regeneration is the biggest in Europe. Seriously if one of best day of your life so far was while working in Manchester on Saturday I think you should get out more!!!!!!!! May I add the reason you served people from all over the country was because Manchester United played at home and a large majority of their fans are not from Manchester.

FINALLY ON THE LIVERPOOL V MANCHESTER FRONT.

We are a great city and will become an even greater city in the coming years. I don't want to boost the riches that Manchester as he quoted.Liverpool is unique and does not want to be a shadow of Manchester.

To clear things up my issue is not with the city of Manchester It is with people comparing Liverpool to Manchester without knowing facts especially SOME ( NOT ALL ) of the Six in the City Crew who should be supporting the city.... Sorry should I not "Jangle"

I agree completely - i am soooo sick of people bigin' up Manchester. Sure, its nice enough but lets face it - its Liverpool that has the capital of culture next year, and that means something. The people of Liverpool are honest and grounded and have a city that they should be proud of. Perhaps this strange little Manchester obsessed man should go and write for the MEN rather than a Liverpool paper - perhaps then we can enjoy our spectatular space, and he can continue his love affair in peace.

I agree completely with your comments its about time somebody spoke out about these so called 'columnists'!!
They are so out of touch with reality and what goes on in the real world. We need someone like you who will speak about the things we all think about and believe in...who cares about who went to Abi Clancey's birthday bash at Baby Cream...I'd rather hear about a 50th birthday party at the Broady with all kinds of mad goings on there!!

Also Manchester will never be able to have what we have and all the millions in the world wont be able to buy it.....and that is a FANTASTIC WATER FRONT!!

I think you're spot on.

Both cities have things to offer, and for someone to suggest we're light years behind is truly idiotic.

Shoot him down in flames David!!

I can in some ways relate to the coloumist as i personally think manchester has alot to offer as does liverpool. They seem organised and the developments have taken place over a period of time. Liverpool has only begun developing since gaining the "capital of culture" award. So at the minute im not condemming Liverpool or sticking up for Manchester as the proof will be in the pudding. Lets wait and see!!!!!!!!!

As to above comment obviously you don't have a clue. I never once dis Manchester I simply had a go at the column as it was a load of rubbish.

Liverpool is a great City already we don't need 2 years

Manchester is a fantastic city and in terms of development Liverpool does have some way to go. However Liverpool is rapidly developing and may close the gap in the future. But the columnist was right that 'At the minute' Liverpool is behind, no doubt the new developments will have Liverpool catching up - but the Paradise Project is not yet ready.
And the City of Liverpool does fall behind because of the lack of the Metrolink (trams) I think it is a great shame that the plans for a new tram system fell through as it would have been a great boost to the city.

I think this debate will go on and on and I think David sounds like he has got a bit of a crush on this six in the city guy.

Also I can't get over how much David looks like that guy off Eaton Road, the one with the high pitched voice !!!!!!

LOL Cheers that comment people say the lad from Eaton road is good looking. Cant see how I look like him but would not mind his money. As for the other comment on having a crush on him " I DON'T "

Manchester's City Centre is quite nice, but Liverpool as a whole is miles ahead.
Venture outside of Liverpool city centre and there is a hell of a lot on offer.

Manchester is nothing but a bon-bon wrapped in a turd.

In the Liverpool V Manchester argument, I coming from Manchester believe Liverpool is the better city, friendly people on the whole, better sense of humour, ease of shopping, i much prefer Liverpools shops because its easier to get about and Manchester now is way to big for its boots! Its full of shops that cater for people more with to much money and not enough sense, what i call posh knob shops and Manchester has killed off most of its original shopping areas like the Royal Exchange, the Coliseum etc, its turning into a city like every other city, the same shops as in other cities- Liverpool has individuality something the City council of Liverpool want to hold in their mind, the killed off Quigleys a place not unlike Manchesters Afflecks palace, dont let Liverpool go down the Manchester route which is now more London Mark 2! Liverpool is the city of culture and of originality please dont become a Manchester clone, i love you just the way you are,Im a Mancunian but an adopted Liverpudlian and proud, oh and im also part of Liverpool city of culture Ambassador!
