My Say!!!!!

Posted by David Brookes on May 9, 2007 4:59 PM |

Soon to be featured on http://www.liverpool.com are my opinions on Liverpools Gays bars, am I right or wrong ? You decide!!!!!

Don't judge a book by it's cover is very true when it comes to the Lisbon, on face value it looks awful but I love the warm values it holds & it is a perfect place to start your night along with the Masquerade. Bar Du Fay & Foundation are ok but I usually only stay for one. The Curzon is possibly the worst dive I have ever been to, the toilets smell of rotting human remains (for some reason I always end up going possibly because they play scally porn on the TV screens & it always good to shock your straight friends). As for Garlands & Supastar Boudoir I think they have lost their gay values and are overly straight (I wouldn't feel right kissing a guy in them) GBAR is so yesterday and not worth a mention. Thank GOD for Chicago's a new bar recently opened on Victoria Street this is by far the cleanest, friendliest and best atmosphere of all the gay bars in Liverpool's gay "Village".

I agree - Garlands used to be a really cool gay bar with great tunes and an amazing atmosphere. Unfortunately now it has turned it a bit of a tourist attraction - all sorts of scallies and the orange brigade tend to go to have a 'peep' at a gay bar, the newer bars such as Chicago have a new funky flavour and has rejuvenated the gay scene. Hopefully there will be many to follow.......

I have still never been to the Curzon and always feel sleazy even walking past the alleyway its on! As for the G-bar I do know what you mean but still enjoy going there when I come back and visit. I am still not sure about Chicago's as only been there once or twice and its always been rather empty. I am back next weekend so will try it again and maybe even go to the Curzon for one! Is it 'the Curzon' or 'Curzon' or is it the same as Asda where scousers say 'the Asda'?

The Lisbon was the first bar I 'found' when I moved up here 3 years ago. It's still my local for a whenever pint.

Mascquerade I don't like. Too small and dingy.

Curzon. Minging. I steer clear.

Foundation. I go there every now and again. It wouldn't be a 'must do' on any night out though. It' a venue that always seems to look like it's only half finished. lol.

My pubdar seems to have let me down with Chicagos & Bar du Fay - never heard of them til now. Must check them out.

Gbar - I quite like it in there once in a while. Have had some good laughs in there.

Garlands. Good club, could be a bit more gay though.

Superstar. I don't go there. About 2 years ago some knobhead steward wouldn't let me in with the pathetic excuse of 'no sportswear'. Since when has have a stipe down the sleeve of a proper jacket been sportswear? Since when has gay venue had dress codes? Anyway, in my book, gay people do not get refused entry to gay venues without damn good reason. Never been back since.
