Book 6, The Half Blood Prince. (Briefly)

At this point - there is disarray in the wizarding world. Voldermort is very much back and recruiting Death Eaters to the Dark side at an alarming rate. The ministry is in trouble for not facing up to the return of Vodermort and therefore Cornelius Fudge is forced to resign.

During most of this book you find out that the sneaky severus snape has close connections with the Malfoys. Dracos mother goes to snape upset that Voldermort has asked Draco to KILL DUMBLEDOOR. She makes Snape promise that he will protect Draco - and if he cannot kill Voldermort then Snape will.

Meanwhile Harry is having private lessons with Dumbeldoor who tells harry that Voldermort has split his soul into 7 pieces, and the only way to defeat him is to destroy all these items. His soul has been hidden in a horcrux which can be any thing. Two Horcruxes have already been destroyed (Tom Riddles diary and a Ring) He and dumbledoor go on missions to find the remaining Horcruxes.

Harry begins to date Ginny (ooooooooooohhh)

Harry confronts Dumbledoor about Snape - Dumbledoor maintains that Harry MUST trust Snape completely no matter what and they go and find another Horcrux. In doing so Dumbledoor is forced to drink a potion which seriously weakens him and his powers. On the way home they find that Hogwarts is under attack by Death Eaters LED BY MALFOY. During the battle Malfoy corners Dumbledoor and Harry, and Dumbledoor paralyses harry and hides him under the Invisible Cloak, when Draco tries to kill Dumbledoor he can't, so snape comes behind him and murders Dumbledoor with the Avada Kadavra curse. Harry chases Draco and Snape and tries to stop them getting away unsuccessfully.

During Dumbledoors funeral Harry vows to leave Hogwarts and look for the remaining Horcruxes, Ron and Hermione promise to go with him. Harry decides to break it off with Ginny to protect her from Voldermort.

Book 7, The Deathly Hallows

At the beginning of the book all of the Order of the Phoenix have come together to try and protect Harry, the protection his mother put on him as a baby will run out when he is 17 - and so they evacuate the Dursley (I cant think of why) and send Harry to the Weasleys. Voldermort scuppers their plans and catches up with them on the way, killing Mad Eye Moody on the way and disfiguring one of the weasley twins (his ear is cut off). Harry manages to see of Voldermort when his wand blasts fire at him,and he gets within a protective spell in time.

At the weasleys, Mrs Weasly isn't happy when she finds out that Harry, Ron and Hermione are not returning to Hogwarts, she demands to know why. But they have promised each other to keep it a secret. They do know want Voldermort to know that they know about the Horcruxes. Meanwhile Lupin and Tonks have got married and Bill and Fleur are about to be married. During the wedding Voldermort kills the Minister of Magic and takes control of the ministry, this breaks the protective charm and Harry, Ron and Hermione are forced to flee.

At first they go to Sirius's old house and Kreacher (house elf) slowly warms to his house guests and helps them to find a horcrux, (a locket - they cant figure out how to break it - so keep it with them) but soon the death eaters catch up with them and they have to move around the country in a tent whilst looking for the Horcruxes.

Meanwhile The ministry (governed by Voldermort) are banishing all Muggle borns and no pure bloods to Azkaban. boo and have appointed Snape as headmaster of hogwarts.

Ron and Harry have a huge argument - as Ron thought that they would have a plan / map to find the horcruxes rather than travel around aimlessly and he walks out leaving Harry and Hermione to go it alone.
After several weeks Harry finds the sword of Griffindor (with some help from an unknown Patronus) and he manages to break the locket Horcrux, and also Ron comes back apologetic and they move forward to find the rest.

Meanwhile some death eaters capture harry ron and hermione and take them to the Malfoy manor, bellatrix tortures Hermione with the Crucio curse to find out where they got the sword (she had put it in her bank vault - she doesn't know hers is a fake). Meanwhile Dobby the House elf comes to rescue them all, and just as he is dissaperating with them is stabbed to death by bellatrix.

Voldermort finds out that there are items called the Deathly Hallows, three possessions which will make the owner invincible. A stone to control death, an invisible cloak and a wand which can beat anyone at battle. He is only interested in the wand and finds out that Dumbledoor was the last owner - so steals it from his grave.

Harry finds all but two of the horcruxes (so he thinks) and finds out that one is in hogwarts, he goes to the school to find it - but finds out that the rest of Dumbledoors army want to fight and over throw snape. This is not what harry wants, he doesn't want anyone else to be killed because of him, but they insist.
As hogwarts prepares to battle, voldermort waits outside and tells them if they dont hand over harry he will kill them all. They decide to fight and a battle between the death eaters and hogwarts begins. Lupin, Tonks, Colin Creevy all die in battle. As does Fred Wesley. boo

Harry destroys another horcrux and goes to the shrieking shack to kill Voldermorts snake (another horcrux) and sees Voldermort command his snake to kill snape. Voldermort has done this because he wants control over the wand. He thinks that as snape killed dumbledoor that he has power over it.

Harry meanwhile goes to dumbledoors office and looks in snape pensieve (thought keeper) and sees all his past memories. He finds out that:
Snape used to be friends with his mother Lilly.
It was when they were put in different sorts (Griffindor and Slytherin) that lilly started to ignore him. Snape was dabbling with dark magic and she didn't approve.
Harrys father James bullied snape constantly.
Snape loved lilly so much that when he was working for Voldermort - and found out that he was going to kill her - he begged dumbledoor to save them in return for his allegiance.
Even though dumbledoor couldn't save them in time, snape remained working for dumbeldoor as an informant, and it was dumbledoor who asked him to stay a death eater for information.
When dumbledoor retrieved one of the horcruxes (the ring) it put a deadly curse on him, and when he found out that he had less than a year to live HE MADE snape kill him. He know Voldermort has asked Draco to kill him, but he didnt want draco's soul tarnished to made snape kill him.
He was told to remain a death eater, and to help harry get all the horcruxes (it was snapes patronus which led harry to the sword) and he was looking out for harry all along.

While seeing all this harry finds out that the final horcrux IS HIMSELF. When Voldermort tried to kill harry as a baby, he made harry into a horcrux by accident. THEREFORE HARRY MUST DIE TO DEFEAT VOLDERMORT.

Harry decides this is the only way, so goes to voldermort and allows him to kill him.

Harry wakes up in heaven. Dumbeldoor is there and explains all sorts of stuff about his past(stuff i havnt included in here otherwise i might as well copy and paste the whole book) and tells harry that he is actually in Limbo and can go back to earth to defeat Voldermort. He tells harry that voldermort cannot hurt him any more and that he can now defeat him.

Harry goes back, allows Voldermort to think he is dead, and while he boasts about his victory Neville Longbottom kills Nagini (the snake). Harry runs into the castle as Voldermort tries to escape, Voldermort cannot kill anyone. The protection that harrys mother placed on harry (sacrificing herself for harry) has happened to everyone else. By harry dying for others he has protected them from his spells.

Harry and Voldermort have a stand-off and harry tells him that all his horcruxes are gone. They battle and Voldermorts death spell back fires, and he kills himself.

THE LAST CHAPTER...

It is nineteen years later. Harry and his wife Ginny and taking their kids to Hogwarts train, Lily, James, and Albus Severus. They see Ron, Hermione and their kids on the platform and they see them off.
In a word - all is well.
